The Associação dos Escoteiros de Portugal (AEP), is a Portuguese
scout organization with people from all religions, and is also a
founding member of the WOSM.

AEP was officially founded on the 6th September 1913, which makes
it the oldest Portuguese scout organization. It is a youth and civil
organization, with educational purposes, to which everyone is free to
adhere to. It has no political connections, and is a national
non-profitable association. Its aim is to contribute to the complete
education of children and young people (boys and girls), helping them
to develop their skills as individuals and to play an active and
positive role in society.

AEP promotes the scouting training:

  • Promoting and organizing outdoor activities and the contact with nature;
  • Protecting the environment and educating people for this protection;
  • Intervening socially;
  • Co-operating to achieve development;
  • Promoting social volunteer actions;
  • Educating for health;
  • Promoting peace and educating to achieve peace;
  • Promoting culture;
  • Promoting sports;
  • Training adult human resources.

In AEP, young people are divided in age branches so that each
member may develop activities and participate in interesting projects
for his/her age. The challenges of the scout program and the
participation in decision making and adoption are progressive and
become more important as young people advance through the age
branches.

The AEP branches are:

Cub scouts:
6 to 10 years of age
JScouts:
11 to 14 years of age
Explorer Scouts:
14 to 16 years of age
Rovers:
17 to 21 years of age

Boys and girls can adhere to the Movement, entering directly to the
corresponding age branch without the need to participate in the
previous one.

Adults who wish to experience the adventure of Scouting may adhere
as well to a scout group already existing or promote the foundation of
a new scout group.
